President Riyale Names 6 New Regions + 16 New Districts

Hargeysa, Somaliland, March 22, 2008 (SL Times) – President Dahir Riyale Kahin issued today in a presidential press statement the formation of additional new regions and districts which will alter the current regional makeup of Somaliland beyond recognition.

President Riyale named the following six new regions and their capitals as;

New Regions	Capital	Annexed: region
Gabiley	Gabiley town	Hargeysa region
Badhan	Badhan town	Sanag region
Buhoodle	Buhoodle town	Togdheer region
Salal	Zeila town	Awdal region
Sarar	Ainabo town	Sool region
Odweyne	Odweyne town	Togdheer region

Furthermore, the presidential press statement stated the following formation of 16 additional new districts to be included in the following regions;

New Districts	Region of new districts	Annexed: region
Haji Salax	Odweyne	Togdheer region
Kalabaydh	Sool region	–
Wajale	Gabile	Hargeysa region
Widh-widh	Buhoodle	Sool region
Qorulugad	Buhoodle	Togdheer region
Go’Da Weyne	Sahil region	–
Harasheekh	Odweyne	Togdheer region
Raydab Khatumo	Odweyne	Togdheer region
Garba Dardar	Salal	Awdal region
Boon	Sala	Awdal region
Harirad	Salal	Awdal region

Moreover, the presidential press statement notified the ministry of Interior that the new regions and districts will not change the old regions and districts which the National Election Commission had marked and allocated its polling stations for the coming 2008 presidential and local government elections scheduled to take place in June and August this year.
